What is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a solution-focused, goal-directed approach to therapy that focuses on the importance of searching for solutions, rather than focusing on problems that are causing a client issues.

It can be used to treat anxiety, depression, stopping smoking, work & sports performance, confidence, and many more undesirable behaviours and habits.

As your therapist, I would work with you to discover your problems and decide a solution that works for you, before using hypnotherapy to help achieve those goals.

What happens in a Hypnotherapy session?

In a typical hypnotherapy session, we explore the positive things that have happened over the last week, indentifying how these things made you feel, and establish the steps you can take over the next week to help you acheive your goals. By doing this, we are focusing on creating positive thought patterns, helping you to ‘re-wire’ your thoughts.

After this first part of our session, we then move on to the trance portion of the session. During the trance portion of the session, you are made comfortable and I will guide you into a deep state of relaxation!

While in this state, your mind becomes more responsive to suggestions, allowing you to be more receptive to suggestions, which will allow us to help you change unhelpful thought patterns.

During this time, you have nothing to worry about! You are simply in a state of focused attention, similar to daydreaming, and you are always in full control – able to hear, move, and stop the session at any time.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

Hypnotic trance is one of the most natural states for the human mind. We often drift off into short states of trance during the day. To get into the state of hypnotic trance a therapist will use guided visualisation which will allow a client achieve a state of deep relaxation or a state of daydreaming when one keeps drifting off whilst being in control. One of my clients described hypnotic trance as "a shower for the mind" as it leaves most of my clients feeling refreshed and relaxed. 

How many sessions will I need?

Even though hypnotherapy works relatively quickly, a total number of sessions will differ from person to person depending on the nature of the issues and client's commitment to therapy. This is something that is discussed fully with every client during the initial consultation. 

I don’t want anyone to know I am seeing a therapist. Are the sessions confidential?

Everything discussed during the initial consultation or subsequent sessions is completely confidential. All information collected from clients is dealt with in accordance with the GDPR and Data Protection Act.

What is the cancellation policy?

I understand that cancellations are sometimes unavoidable. I have a 24hrs cancellation policy in my clinic which means that if you ever find the need to reschedule or cancel an appointment then please do so by giving me a minimum of 24hrs notice. This will allow another patient, who may need a session, to take the spot. Cancellations made with less than 24hrs notification will be charged at full cost. 

When will I notice change?

Some people respond to hypnotherapy immediately and notice change after the first session. For others it can take longer. A lot depends on the willingness and commitment of the client, the nature of the problem and the regularity of the sessions.

Are online sessions as effective as sessions in person?

Online sessions, which have become a very popular alternative during COVID, are just as effective as the ones done in person. Online sessions can also be mixed in person sessions when needed, e.g. when traveling for work, which helps with continuity of sessions. It allows clients, who are unable to attend in person, to get help they need from any place in the world.

A few important things that help sessions go as smoothly as possible are: good internet connection, fully charged device or access to a charge, an hour of an uninterrupted time and a private place where one can relax.
